Description

Growth Form: Trees or shrubs, 3–18 m tall.

Leaves: Leaves simple. Leaves in whorls of (3-)4(-5). Blades oblong-oblanceolate. Apex acute to shortly acuminate. Base truncate to ± cordate. Surfaces leathery. Margins regularly spiny serrate. Subsessile or with petiole to 4 mm. Stipules absent.

Flowers: Inflorescences axillary, simple, 5.5-38 cm, densely brownish yellow tomentose; bracts of flower pairs subulate to linear, 0.2-1.4 mm. Pedicel 2-3 mm. Flowers perfect. Perianth yellowish or pink, 5.5-15 mm, tomentose. Stamens 4, opposite perianth segments. Ovary superior, 1-loculed, ovary and base of style brownish yellow pubescent; style terminal, simple.

Fruit: Fruit globose; 1.5-5 cm in diam.; apex apiculate. Seeds usually 1; seed coat bony; wrinkled or with shallow depressions.
